Preliminary exercise feedback and learner response

WWW: Your editing skills are really very good here – lots to credit. Excellent continuity editing, clear narrative communicated, and an attempt at a pack product during the advert. The choice of location and character in your advert linked to the target audience for this project.

EBI: The preliminary exercise advert length was between 30-40 seconds and yours is well over, not a problem for our real coursework but ensure you meet the minimum requirements.  In terms of the editing, the main feedback from this project is the audio ensure that you edit when someone is counting down the shot. Consider also using non-diegetic sound such as an audio track or voiceover which is a requirement of the coursework. Although I like the ending where your slogan is on the screen, I think the choice of typography needs changing.

LR: As your learner response, write what you are planning to make for your real coursework. Will you choose to make the 2 video adverts or 3 print adverts? Explain your decision.

2) Using a combination of your own reflection on the preliminary exercise and the feedback you were given, write two WWW bullet points (What Went Well) and two EBI bullet points (Even Better If) for your preliminary exercise.

WWW (What Went Well):

Your editing skills are impressive, showcasing excellent continuity and a clear narrative that effectively communicates your message. The choice of location and character aligns well with the target audience, enhancing the overall impact of the advert.

 EBI (Even Better If):

While your advert exceeds the recommended length of 30-40 seconds, this isn't an issue for the final coursework, but be mindful of minimum requirements moving forward. In terms of audio, pay attention to editing during the countdown for shots, and consider incorporating non-diegetic sound like an audio track or voiceover, as this is essential for the coursework. Although the ending with your slogan is effective, a change in typography would enhance its visual appeal.

3) What have you learned from the preliminary exercise that will help you in the actual coursework project? List three things you have learned or will do differently as a result of this exercise. You may want to comment on organisation, actors, filming, editing or something else entirely but be specific.

To edit a film in the correct landscape orientation, first, import your video into editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro or iMovie and rotate it if necessary. Next, select a suitable music track, ensuring you have the rights to use it, and import it into your project, placing it on the audio track in your timeline. To make the film longer, consider adding additional clips, using slow-motion effects, or incorporating transitions to enhance flow. After adjusting audio levels to ensure balance between the music and any dialogue, review your edits, then export the final version in the desired format while saving your project for future adjustments.

4) Complete any learner response tasks or questions from your teacher.

For my coursework, I’ve chosen to create two video adverts instead of printed ones. I find video advertising more engaging, as it combines visuals, sound, and motion to captivate an audience. I enjoy the editing process.

Filming is also exciting for me, as it allows for collaboration with actors and other creatives. I’m considering themes that resonate with my interests and the target audience, whether promoting a product or a social cause. I plan to use editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro to achieve a polished final product.

Overall, I believe my passion for video production will help me create adverts that are visually appealing and meaningful.
